Richard E. Molsby

Molsby loves details and complicated transactions, but also has great communication skills and is passionate about helping clients. He uses his business acumen to grow MOBO and uses his business acumen to grow MOBO and its clients’ businesses in smart ways.  Molsby focuses his practice on business law, estate planning, construction law, and property law matters. As a founding partner, Rich is the “MO” in MOBO.

Previously, Molsby was a business consultant where he worked with California companies to improve their efficiencies and profitability. He has also been a manufacturer’s representative for Skis Dynastar and Lange Ski Boots in Colorado. He has also managed ski shops, worked construction, worked in restaurants, managed sports leagues, and worked horses for a living. That broad base of experience enabled Molsby to obtain a vast background in a variety of fields, which enables him to quickly get up to speed in complex matters.

At MOBO, Molsby focuses his practice on details related to business, estate planning, incorporation, construction, and property law. He collaborates with all the MOBO attorneys to achieve great results for clients. Molsby is licensed to practice law in Nevada and California and the federal court system.

Molsby graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Political Science, and received his Juris Doctorate from Cal Northern School of Law, both while working full-time. In addition to his day job, he volunteers on several boards. Molsby is the former President of the Tahoe Truckee Bar Association and he was the Chief Financial Officer and a professor at Cal Northern School of Law from 2008 through 2016. He is also a commercial and residential real estate broker.

Molsby's favorite charity is the MOBO Foundation because it supports great charities and non-profits like the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, High Fives, and Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Inc. He is very proud that the MOBO Foundation also helps local individuals in need. A percentage of all MOBO Law’s gross revenues go to fund the MOBO Foundation and 100% of those funds accomplish good. You should know that when you retain MOBO, a percentage of your payment goes to improve our communities in a variety of meaningful ways.

Molsby has lived and skied all over North America, spending the majority of his time in California, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho. He currently spends much of his free time skiing (backcountry and inbounds), cycling (road, mountain, cyclo-cross, and snowbiking), open water swimming, riding motorcycles, and wake surfing.
