  • The Law Offices of Molsby & Bordner, LLP (MOBO), were founded by Richard Molsby and Cameron Bordner. Molsby & Cam worked in the ski industry for many years in different capacities, where they each developed a passion for the outdoors and a desire to incorporate that passion into their careers.

Molsby and Cam were respectively living in Colorado and worked together in the ski industry although they never met. Cam was a professional ski patroller and competitive skier with a sponsorship by Skis Dynastar and Lange Boots. Molsby was the factory sales representative for Dynastar and Lange, who provided sponsorship gear to Cam. The coincidences do not end there. During that time, Molsby and Cam each went back school at the University of Colorado at Boulder where they each ended up studying pre-med because they wanted to help people. Later, they individually realized that law school was a better fit that still allowed them to help people. The coincidences continued, and they individually relocated to Tahoe where they could practice law in an area with abundant outdoor recreation opportunities. Molsby and Cam still get a kick out of their similar paths which led them to the practice of law and collectively wonder, "Are there really coincidences?"

    Molsby and Cam are MOBO.

  • Jennifer Schaller

After spending her early years in Northern California and the Sierras, Jennifer Schaller relocated to Southern California where she earned her B.A. in Political Science at the University of California, Los Angeles. Eventually longing for the Northern California lifestyle, she returned to attend law school at Santa Clara University in the San Francisco Bay Area. Jennifer’s desire to spend more than just weekends in the Sierras caught up with her in 2009 when she decided to relocate and make Tahoe her new home.

Prior to joining MOBO in 2013, Jennifer worked as of counsel at the Law Offices of Yvette Durant, primarily focusing on family law, while also volunteering for the Community Legal Program of the Family Resource Center of Truckee - a free legal clinic primarily serving the low-income population of the greater Tahoe area. Jennifer then opened her own family law practice in Truckee where she remained for the next two years.

At MOBO, Jennifer concentrates her practice on the numerous areas of family law, including divorce litigation, divorce mediation, legal separation, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, property division, parentage, premarital agreements. She assists clients in Northern California and throughout the greater Tahoe area, handling cases throughout Nevada County and Placer County, as well as El Dorado, Plumas, Sierra, and Sacramento counties. Jennifer understands the uncertainty, high emotions, and frustration which often accompany family law matters. She strives for effective representation in these difficult matters, handling each case with the sensitivity and skill necessary to guide clients through a complicated legal process while advocating for their best interests.

Jennifer is a member and Vice President of the Tahoe Truckee Bar Association, and is an active member of the local Bar Association for Nevada County. She also continues to run the Family Law Clinic of the Community Legal Program at the Family Resource Center.

In her free time, Jennifer tries to enjoy all that Tahoe has to offer – hiking, biking, rafting, skiing, and snowshoeing, as well as spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Henry.

MOBO is a full service law firm that offers both transactional and litigation services to our clients.  Our transactional department provides the clarity and specificity in document drafting that often prevents disputes from ever arising due to ambiguity and misunderstanding.  Even if a dispute has arisen, a transactional review can sharpen the contested points of controversy, which allows the parties to address the real issues at hand through a settlement agreement.

MOBO prides itself on taking an aggressive, yet reasonable, approach to the practice of law.  However, we cannot force an opponent to be reasonable; we can only give them that opportunity.  If they decide not to take that opportunity, then our litigation department steps in to handle things.  MOBO is experienced at litigating from the plaintiff’s and defendant’s chair.  We always look at things objectively and try to obtain the best result possible.  Throughout the representation, we communicate with our client to educate them on the process so the “surprises” are few and far between.  Unlike most law firms, MOBO’s transactional and litigation departments work collaboratively in order to achieve a detail-oriented and successful representation and result.

  • Business Law
We handle all business-related matters. Some examples include incorporation, business consulting and planning, the formation of LLCs and partnerships, the purchase and sale of businesses, and all documentation related to business. Let MOBO help you do business smarter.

Construction Law and Home Improvement Contracts
Construction law is an important field because disagreements and misunderstandings abound when documentation is unclear. This is especially true on a large project. The stakes can be high when disputes develop, especially in public works projects, but new construction and remodels (aka works of improvement), residential and commercial alike, can be costly, stressful, and time consuming. Whether you are a contractor or a property owner, consider having MOBO review or prepare documentation to minimize the chance of a dispute developing.

    Estate Planning
The three main parts to a common estate plan are an advance healthcare directive, a will, and a trust. These parts work in unison to achieve your wishes. Advantages of an estate plan can be control, privacy, peace of mind, and tax savings. Among other things, MOBO can handle revocable and irrevocable trusts, charitable trusts, pet trusts, and asset protection trusts. MOBO is also able to act as trustee for your trust.

    Labor Law
Employers have specific responsibilities to their employees. MOBO can help to make sure that employers meet those responsibilities, and we can defend employers against claims by employees or various governmental agencies. Employees may have legitimate claims against their employers and MOBO can assist employees to make sure that they are paid as required by California law. We can also draft employment agreements that clearly set mutual obligations. Lastly, do not attend an administrative or court hearing without MOBO.

    Real Estate
Molsby is a former real estate broker and can handle all aspects of property transactions. From preparation and review of purchase agreements to resolution of property line and easement disputes, MOBO can help. We have handled everything from condominium and HOA matters to massive ranch transactions. Realtors benefit from engaging our services because we often help them achieve their client’s goals, which is the win-win we always strive to achieve.
  • Defense of Recreation and the Ski Industry
MOBO believes in recreation and the ability to appreciate exercise and nature. We believe that plaintiffs and their attorneys are impairing our collective ability to enjoy the outdoors with frivolous lawsuits that fail to appreciate the well-established doctrine known as Assumption of the Risk. We zealously remind them that they chose to accept those inherent risks when they rolled off the couch. We want to stop lawsuits that inevitably increase lift ticket prices and impair access to recreation and nature. MOBO will NEVER sue a ski resort. Industry quote: “People suing ski areas should be shot.” Scot Schmidt, the Blizzard of Ahhhs, 1988.

    Insurance Defense
MOBO handles various insurance defense cases, including but not limited to; construction, personal injury, and breach of contract. Let MOBO represent you with our personal and interested approach, which you will prefer to being a numbered and unknown client to a legal mill. Many insurance companies have agreed to hire MOBO to defend their clients. Let us check to see if your insurance company will pay our fees to defend you.

    Home Owners Associations
HOAs have unique property issues that MOBO can navigate. We represent owners and associations to insure compliance with California law. We obtain resolution of disputes between owners and the HOA and/or other owners.

    Personal Injury and Wrongful Death
MOBO handles select personal injury and wrongful death cases. We have both defended, and pursued, drivers, owners, and businesses. Consider benefiting from our zealous and pragmatic approach.
  • Where many other law firms require their attorneys to work in a vacuum, MOBO believes that our work product is improved with input from multiple MOBO attorneys. That collaboration creates a synergy that results in an enthusiastic and zealous effort, which in turn produces an extremely high quality work product. We also enjoy working with our clients. We are happy to “just handle it”, but most clients like to be informed and involved and we appreciate that. Our clients are smart and they know the facts better than anyone. Let’s work together to achieve success for you.
